Patients Filling Their XYREM® Prescriptions
What is the XYREM® Success Program?
The XYREM Success Program provides support for patients. They are enrolled in this program when you fax their first XYREM prescription to SDS Pharmacy.
SDS Pharmacy, with the XYREM Success Program, has specially trained pharmacists, nurses, and Admission Specialists. They will review educational information with your patient. They will also answer any questions the patient may have before sending them their first supply of XYREM.
What does SDS Pharmacy do?
Once you have faxed the XYREM prescription to SDS Pharmacy with the XYREM Success Program:
- An SDS Pharmacy team member will check to make sure the prescription is valid.
- An Admission Specialist will then call the patient within 48 hours to review their insurance coverage. (See the question on next page, “Is XYREM covered by insurance?”)
- An SDS Pharmacy team member will schedule the shipment with the patient. The team member will confirm that they have read and understood the XYREM Success Program educational materials. If you were unable to provide these materials to the patient, SDS Pharmacy will mail them to them before or with their first shipment of XYREM.
SDS Pharmacy will always confirm where and when they would like their XYREM delivered. They will also confirm who will sign for the shipment. This person must be at least 18 years old. It can be the patient or someone they choose.
XYREM will be shipped via overnight delivery service. The patient or their designee must sign for the shipment. The designee’s name will be kept on file. SDS Pharmacy will match the delivery signature to the one it has on file. They will also call them to make sure they got their shipment.
If SDS Pharmacy can’t reach them, an SDS Pharmacy team member will leave a phone message and ask them to call back. The toll-free number (1-866-997-3688) of the SDS Pharmacy will show up on caller ID. The words “Express Scripts” may also appear.

How is a XYREM prescription filled?
XYREM is available only from SDS Pharmacy. SDS Pharmacy is part of the XYREM Success Program. The XYREM Success Program was developed with the FDA to make sure that XYREM is distributed and used in a safe way.
How will my patient receive their shipment of XYREM?
Their XYREM will be shipped to them by an overnight delivery service. Each shipment comes with a XYREM Medication Guide. The patient should read this guide carefully each time they get a new shipment.
What will they receive with their XYREM shipment?
Each XYREM shipment will contain:
- 1 or more bottles of XYREM.
- 2 dosing cups with child-resistant caps.
- A liquid measuring syringe.
- The XYREM Medication Guide.
- Does not include water
Their first XYREM shipment will include a vibrating alarm clock. It will also include a brochure about the XYREM Nursing Program. A nurse from the XYREM Nursing Program will call them after they have received their first shipment of XYREM. If they want, the nurse will also call them to answer any additional medical questions about taking XYREM they may have during their first 2 months of XYREM treatment and to monitor their progress.
They can reach one of the nurses from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, Central Standard Time, Monday-Friday, if you have any questions about XYREM. Call the XYREM Success Program toll-free number at 1-866-997-3688.
Can my patient’s local pharmacy provide XYREM?
No, but in some cases the delivery service may deliver XYREM to a local pharmacy for them to pick up.
How do they get refills of XYREM?
SDS Pharmacy will call them when it is close to their refill time. However, they can also call the XYREM Success Program themselves when they have a 7-day supply of XYREM left. They should be ready to tell the Pharmacy team where they would like their XYREM delivered. Also they should tell them the name of the adult who will sign for the package.
How do they get a new prescription after their last XYREM refill?
SDS Pharmacy will send a fax to you, the provider when their last XYREM prescription is shipped. This fax will ask you, the provider to send a new XYREM prescription to the Pharmacy team. The prescription label on their XYREM bottle(s) will also state “0 refills remaining.”
